Grinding of DOM Carbon Steel Tubing for the Manufacturing Industry
At Industrial Grinders & Machining, we are experienced in grinding operations for a variety of materials and shapes, including drawn over mandrel (DOM) carbon steel. One of our customers had requested the precision cutting, grinding, and polishing of a DOM carbon steel tube for the manufacturing industry. They also required a complete turn-key service that would handle both manufacturing and shipping logistics.
The DOM carbon steel tube began with a 3" diameter x 24" length and required us to produce tolerances of + 0.001". Using our industrial precision grinders, we were able to reduce the diameter to between 2.879" to 2.881". Scrap loss was kept to a minimum, while ensuring surface roughness measured 32 RMS or better throughout the entire length of the tube. Over the course of several weeks, our purchasing team coordinated the entire acquisition cycle from raw material purchase to final shipping. Using cost analysis, we were able to keep material costs low for our customer while minimizing scrap waste. Once completed, we coordinated all shipping and logistics so that the product arrived direct to our customer.
Our customer was pleased with our work and continues to do business with us today. For more information on our grinding expertise for the manufacturing industry, please contact us or refer to the table below.
